Summer season and operator well-being: Merlo guarantees the best solutions.
Merlo’s vehicles are designed with a focus on reliability and safety, giving operators peace of mind while working in maximum safety. In addition to safety, the company also adopts the highest standards of comfort on all its work vehicles.
San Defendente di Cervasca (CN) | 17 lJuly 2024 – Dealing with high temperatures in our cities today is possible thanks to the innovative solutions available inside buildings. But there are working environments where climate change is really a major problem. Industry immediately comes to mind, not least working in the fields is becoming increasingly difficult - in terms of temperature.
The agricultural summer is already very busy, working hours are increasing and operators need to be able to rely on all the technology they can to get through the day without compromising efficiency in operations, but above all their health. This is why Merlo, reference point for agricultural, earthmoving and construction companies for sixty years, dedicates much of its investments to the research of solutions that meet the demand in terms of performance and at the same time take into account operators' safety and well-being.
The cab: a true dashboard.
Precisely because outdoor conditions are becoming increasingly challenging, for years Merlo has been striving to make the cabs of its vehicles technologically advanced, so that operators can do as much work as possible from inside the vehicle.
Let's start with the air conditioning system. The air conditioning system - with eight vents - has been developed according to automotive standards, halving cooling times; the inlet vent is placed on the side of the cab, away from potential sources of dust and dirt to maximise the service life of the filters.
Merlo cabs are also designed to offer excellent visibility of the load and work area, eliminating the need to get out of the vehicle.Anti-shattering transparent windows, compliant with FOPS Level II and ROPS standards, ensure maximum visual safety for the operator. In addition, rear cameras and monitoring systems are available to reduce blind spots and improve operations.
In this respect, with the aim of making the work cab a real dashboard, one of Merlo's latest innovations in the field of comfort and safety is the ASCS, an acronym for Adaptive Stability Control System, an active and adaptive system, which verifies all operating parameters in real time, towards three fundamental assets: the load being handled, i.e. the weight (in kg) of the material being lifted, which is read by a load cell; the position of the load, i.e. the distance of the load from the machine, calculated by means of special sensors that read the extension, the lifting angle of the boom and the rotation of the carriage; the equipment in use, which is automatically recognised by means of a sensor placed on the implement and a receiver on the carriage, which allows the stability calculation and load diagram to be optimised.
Keeping the operator's working hours in mind, Merlo also does not neglect the ergonomic aspect, in the seating - the seats are air-suspension - and in the optimised organisation of devices and control systems. Some lines that allow this are equipped with Merlo's exclusive patented Suspended Cab (CS) with active hydropneumatic suspension that can be switched off directly by the operator. The low-frequency system allows the drastic reduction of vibrations inside the passenger compartment and facilitates the absorption of the stress and vibrations transmitted during the transfer and work phases, even on uneven ground. Other lines also include the reverse shuttle at steering wheel, which is intuitive and easy to reach, to increase manoeuvring agility; some models - depending on the performance required - include a second control for managing the reverse shuttle also on a joystick, maximising operating efficiency with minimum effort.
Finally, again to increase operating comfort, soundproofing is also ensured, thanks to cab pressurisation in compliance with ISO 10263-3 standards.
